Te Anau and Fiordland

Te Anau is a small town with a big heart, used to welcoming visitors from all walks of life. Its permanent population sits at about 2000 and the town caters well to its residents as well as visitors, with plenty of activities for all to enjoy.

The climate and geography here are what gives Fiordland its distinct feeling of seclusion and grandeur. There are 14 dramatic fiords, 250km of coastline and acres upon acres of native bush. Against the spectacular sights of the misty, snow-capped mountain ranges, it makes for a striking landscape of green, white, grey and blue.

The weather in Fiordland can be unpredictable and varies from one landmark to the next. You’re likely to see some rain, especially in and around the fiords, so pack your raincoats and be prepared to rug up to ensure your open-air encounters are experienced in comfort.
